How to Add Your Domain to Google Search Console

If you want Google to index your website, you need to add your domain to Google Search Console. It only takes a few minutes, and it helps your site appear in search results.

Here’s how to do it step by step.

1. Copy Your Domain Name

Go to your website and copy the domain name. Don’t include https:// or any slashes—just the plain domain (like example.com).

2. Open Google Search Console

Visit Google Search Console.

Choose the Domain option. Don’t use the URL prefix option. Paste your domain name and click Continue.

3. Copy the TXT Record

Google will give you a TXT record to verify ownership. Click Copy to grab the TXT value.

You’ll use this in your DNS settings.

4. Add the TXT Record to Your DNS

Now go to where you manage your domain’s DNS settings. That could be:

  • GoDaddy
  • Namecheap
  • Contabo
  • Or another provider

In this example, the domain uses Contabo, but the process is the same.

Do this:

  • Go to your DNS management panel
  • Add a new record
    • Type: TXT
    • Name: Your domain (like example.com)
    • Value: Paste the TXT value from Google

Click Create Record or Save.

5. Verify Ownership

Go back to Google Search Console. Click Verify.

If the TXT record is correct, you’ll see a message that says: Ownership verified.

Click Go to Property to access your dashboard.

Done

You’ve connected your domain to Google Search Console. Now Google can start indexing your site and tracking its performance.
